It’s crazy because literally every single thing you are saying I’m literally relating to 100%! In high school we had a manufacturing program that I was in since freshman year to senior year that resulted in getting an automation certificate through UIpath. But instead of proceeding with automation, I worked as a barber making 90-100k (without benefits)a year from, but deep down I always wanted to do IT related work.. so after marrying my wife and having a beautiful baby girl with her, I finally started to study for my comptia a+ certificate, then in forums I read that if you skip to network+ you’ll get a higher paying job that surpasses the a+ certificate. So I was on YouTube watching professor messers videos, and I said shoot why not apply to some jobs on Indeed that I feel like I could actually do. So I go on indeed and craigslist (underrated gold mine for finding jobs) and applied for like 30 jobs that we’re local and up to 1 hour away (Silicon Valley) and even jobs that there main requirement was bachelors degree.. so I applied and within 1 week I got 2 job interviews. 1 job 30 min away for 50k a year and another for 65k a year with no prior certificates or experience, entry level jobs that pay well. But moral of the story is jobs are out there, make sure your resume is nice, OVERsell your self to land an interview and have a good attitude and be a team player and that’s all they really want cause everything else they can teach you..

I started out in 1996 on this path, while I do have a bachelor degree this was not technology related, but 'Communication' is what IT is all about, so this became useful to me. I ve worked for years as computer technician , helpdesk , pc support on an IT department . Its exhausting. The computer users call us even for the simplest things. They refuse to learn how to use a computer. Many times I have to drive to offices for simple things that the users could easily do themselves. They expect from us to know everything and many times we have to teach them things that are not our responsibility . I suggest to everyone to become programmers than to become IT techincians and run all day from office to office. The programmers work from their office and doesnt need to run outside fixing computers-servers-printers ..They can also work from home.

This was so similar to where I was 6 months ago. I was making great pay in vehicle wraps and graphics for 8 yrs, but getting burnt out and missing out at home with family was tearing me apart. I have a fine art degree. I don't belong in IT right?! But I've now been a Tier 2 service desk analyst for the last 6 months, at an enterprise level company. Take that chance and get into this field, I still have the "imposter syndrome" time to time, but everyone has been so supportive in this industry compared to my last. I also took a large paycut as well, yet in the long run I know its worth it. I am now learning every day, and able to be a better father and husband with a more stable work schedule. My biggest question is where to next? Dakota, your videos are honest, motivating, and helpful! Thank you!
