nufgorf says:

So my 48tb NAS for my media collection should be SSD rather than "Spinning Rust"?
Can I have your job? Since it obviously pays a hell of of a lot more than mine does !
My 8tb work drive in my PC should be an SSD? – cool – pity I can't BUY an 8 Tb SSD for less than 3X the equivelent "spinning rust" units.
And 8k? the size of the files means most people will need more bulk storage – which due to cost still means "ye olde disks".
Don't get me wrong – every machine I use has a boot SSD as minimum, with the least used machines being entirely SSD – I love SSDs.
But HDD's will still have a place in many machines for a long time to come, because YES, Hard drives ARE still worth it!!!

Dale Johnson says:

I just bought a pair of 8tb HDDs last year to replace my 4 aging 1tb drives in a pair of RAID1s for all my aggregate storage of mostly music and some video. I'd really love another dozen of these drives, but i'm closer to linus in terms of data hoarding than I am to the average user (I have days of music I've never even sorted and archived that i got from other DJs). Would I use them for anything else? not on your life, I wouldn't even edit video off of one now lol. SSDs have gotten SO cheap that it just doesn't make sense to me to even install games on spinning rust at this point. Basically all my games are on NVMe at this point, because I can. On that note, someone wanna front me an 8tb NVMe? Cause both my 1tb drives are full of games already xD

vgamesx1 says:

It isn't a fair comparison and I know many would rather not buy used drives but… You can find 2-3TB (sata and sas) drives as low as $30 or pretty close to 1 cent per GB, so in terms of mass storage I'd rather have 3x3TB drives over a single 1TB SSD, more drives = more data and more copies of said data, I came fairly close to losing data once, and I've been taking backups a lot more seriously ever since, it was not a fun experience…

Hawkley Broccoli says:

I want to know what a recommended ssd setup is. How many/ nvme 4.0 vs 3.0 for games or better for OS. How to copy files transfer from hard drive to ssd safely etc

Liam Farrell says:

I wonder if there is a micro centre in Australia.

Jaba says:

TL;DW: Yes, they are cheap storage. SSDs are still very expensive compared to them.

Windows SERVERhost says:

If you are going to build a server, you should not use an SSD, a 4TB WD Ultrastar can be found for 120$, and an SSD that can handle extreme use is going to cost up to 700$, Why can you not use an SSD in a server? Because NAND has limited lifespan, a hard disk can last forever, I have killed many SSDs by putting them in a server (and LOST data), meanwhile the hard drives are still working 68+K hours later under heavy use, for long term storage an HDD will also be better since NAND seems to degrade over 10 years, meanwhile I have hard disks just being pulled out of service that have been in use for 18 years.

theredheadedgeek says:

I went to microcenter for the first time recently for my birthday, and I swear that place is like heaven. I only got an SSD but the difference with the loading speeds and everything that I have loaded on it is so insane

Fee says:

Wait when was Anthony in high school/college?

YoMen18 says:

ssd's are great and all…. but a 8TB ssd vs a HDD….. still a no breander to go with the HDD

Self Elements says:

5:04 Gosh I need a bluray player right the freaking now!

gary tallowin says:

10 tb's of internal ssd and 20tb's of internal hdd on my main pc…
…I have a hoarding problem.

ayush says:

You guys should do like an Optane in 2021 or something Optane was amazing when I last tried it

Keith Marsh says:

So to cut an already short video short. SSD's good, mechanical hard drives OK. Great Saturday night viewing 🙄

Braxx Juventa says:

WOW! Great video and great voice Anthony! Thank you! 👍😁
